Now you KNOW I don’t like to rush through months/seasons/whatever, and I believe every time of year is beautiful for a different reason, but let’s be real – when you live in the northeast, there’s only so much January a girl can take! Thank god it’s Bachelor season, amirite?!
Usually this time of year has me struggling to stay summertime-level healthy. By now, my skin is so pale and so dry that there just is not enough lotion in the WORLD! Plus, I don’t know, but there’s just something in the air that has me feeling low-key nauseous all the time (I guess that ‘something’ would be cold and flu germs circulating).
This year, however, I feel like I finally found my groove. I’m sharing a few of my game-changing January faves, products that TRULY helped me look and feel my best during one of the toughest, darkest, longest months of the year. Curious? Let’s dive in!
Trader Joe’s Antioxidant Facial Serum: I’ve been trying anything and everything to keep my skin healthy and moisturized this year, so it’s a little hard to attribute it to just one product. But this little impulse buy ($8.99 at Trader Joe’s) was WELL worth it. I’ve been using it as a primer under my makeup and even at the end of the day, my skin still feels silky-smooth.
Dynamis Weighted Hula Hoop: I’m simply obsessedddd with this 3lb hula hoop! I thought I would be too clumsy to pick up the rhythm of hula hooping at the ripe old age of 33, but it took me about ten minutes of trying. I’ve been actively trying to find ways to do more frequent but shorter workouts, and this became a quick fave. Highly recommend!
Vermont Village Sipping Vinegar: I know this one may seem a little weird to you (then again, if you’re still here after ‘adult hula hooping’, maybe not). I’m someone who drinks ginger tea year-round, I love kombucha, I definitely have a palate for spices; basically anything that makes my stomach feel warm and settled, I’m here for it – especially in winter. If you like kombucha as well, you might take to sipping vinegar quickly. I bought it to drink when I would normally have lemon water, mostly in the morning (just to mix up the routine a bit). It makes my “nervous-about-getting-the-flu” stomach feel very at ease, and it’s great for digestion. I recommend it in the “turmeric honey” flavor.
Although there has been improvement over the years as to the impact of heart disease and health, cardiovascular disease is still the number one cause of death in men and women in the United States. Every year, February is the hallmark of American Heart Month. Thinking of Valentine’s Day is a good opportunity to do a little self-assessment and personal reflection of your heart health status and risks.
